Home, Sweet, Habitat...

There are two places in the world where I feel completely centered:  Central Park in New York City and of course, home on Laurel Street.

I am at peace when I am home.  I miss it when I am away.  I am balanced the moment I walk through the door.  All my senses come to life in a way that's absolutely amazing, and I LOVE IT!!

This picture represents so many good things that have happened to me as a result of partnering with Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity.  It represents the many friendships I've made throughout all these years, the doors of opportunities that have opened for me, and the empowering feeling that makes me feel as though I can accomplish almost anything!

After becoming a Hartford Habitat homeowner, I have learned to be [more] responsible -- I have to pay property taxes to the town twice a year, I have had to carry homeowner's insurance, and I have to maintain our property (snow, lawn, etc.) and have learned.  It IS a lot different when renting, but it's all worth it.

It didn't happen easily for me, but it happened.  Five and a half years later, when anyone asks me, I still feel the same love and appreciation for everyone who made this our "Home, Sweet Habitat..."

"It's Alive!!!!!!!"

"It's Alive!!!!!!!" -- was that Dr. Frankenstein who said that?  Well, ladies and gems, with that said, we're now blogging!

I have no idea what I am doing, but I/we have a "blog".  I guess the first thing I have to figure out is how to work this technology -- since, in a way, is new to me.  Yeah, yeah, I've read blogs... they - most of the time - bore me, so I will try to keep this one fun, upbeat and super-happy!  Who's writing?  Who's reading!?  Exactly.

Well, WELCOME to my journey and THANK YOU for being here... Over the next few months, I will take you on a trip to the past as I share with you my "Habitat" experience as a staff member and as a homeowner, and then back to the future - this almost sounds wrong! - as I join President Jimmy Carter and his wife Mrs. Rosalynn Carter in Washington DC during the 2010 Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project.

With that said - I will need help, LOTS of help... advise, guidance and above all, I will need to raise funds to make this happen!  I have about 12 weeks to take care of all these things, and I am confident that it will be one of those experiences I will never forget.
