There are two places in the world where I feel completely centered: Central Park in New York City and of course, home on Laurel Street.
I am at peace when I am home. I miss it when I am away. I am balanced the moment I walk through the door. All my senses come to life in a way that's absolutely amazing, and I LOVE IT!!
This picture represents so many good things that have happened to me as a result of partnering with Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity. It represents the many friendships I've made throughout all these years, the doors of opportunities that have opened for me, and the empowering feeling that makes me feel as though I can accomplish almost anything!
After becoming a Hartford Habitat homeowner, I have learned to be [more] responsible -- I have to pay property taxes to the town twice a year, I have had to carry homeowner's insurance, and I have to maintain our property (snow, lawn, etc.) and have learned. It IS a lot different when renting, but it's all worth it.
It didn't happen easily for me, but it happened. Five and a half years later, when anyone asks me, I still feel the same love and appreciation for everyone who made this our "Home, Sweet Habitat..."
